Nail Fail!

Everyone does it, some more than others. They fail. It could be a quiz, homework, an art project at home. For some (like me) it could be giving yourself a bad mani. It doesn't have to be every time you take a quiz, or make an art project. But once in a while, things don't turn out the way you'd like it to. I know most of you right now are going, "So, what's the big deal? It's just nails," while others are going, "Oh no! That stinks!" either sympathetically or sarcastically.
For me, it's usually a big deal when I fail. This weekend, I found out something about my nail skills, I cannot do animal prints. I just can't. I tried this leopard print tutorial over at Steph's Closet. It seemed simple to me. I'm not really a leopard kinda gal (more of a zebra kinda gal. I LOVE zebra, almost more than the Muppets, but not quite), but I gave it a shot anyway. It looked cute on her. Of course, I'm one of those girls who always likes things when others do it, but I never like my own. Anyone else like that? Well I tried it on Friday night, and I didn't really like it, It looked like someone had strangled a cheetah and stole patches of it's spots. But it was a first time try so I didn't let it get me down too much. Too bad I didn't take a picture of it.
Well if you know me, then you know that Saturdays are gymnastics days. On Saturdays I go to the YMCA in Watertown to practice and assist coaches, (like my mom and my awesome coach and friend Carolyn hehe) in gymnastics. Well, being my blonde self, (no offense to blondes elsewhere, I'm sure you have much more common sense than I) I put a topcoat on when I woke up, hoping that my nails would be dry by the time I got to the gym. Well you can guess what happened right?

I knew you could. So those are my nails, and my rolling around and helping little Tumbling Tigers kinda pushed my nail polish back a little. Go figure. It was probably a sign from the Nail Fairy that my nails stunk and I needed to change them. That's the story I'm going with anyway.
So I changed my nails. I found this really cool tutorial a while back. It's so idiotically simple, and the idea was right under my nose because I had all the colors. I'm kicking myself for not thinking of this on my own. The best part, it's Louisa-proof! Yay! I got this idea from my favorite nail blog ever! Leslie at Polish Art Addiction. So here's what I did.

*This look is pretty cute. One day I could probably wear this alone.
Then I used Black Crackle from OPI to create the full effect.

It's like the scratch pads that used to bring me so much joy as a kid. HA! Who am I kidding? They still bring me joy and I'm still a kid. They are soo much fun, I am always like "OOHH Pretty Colors..." It's true. And I love Lisa Frank too. When I was little, I was in her fan club and got all this fun stuff. Which is now in the trash or in a box in our attic I must confess... but it was fun while it lasted. I'm a sucker for cute things and rainbows. A girl through and through.
I don't have all that fancy-schmancy China Glaze stuff. I not real High Maintenance when it comes to nail polish. If it looks pretty, I'll buy any kind polish you throw at me. So this is what I used. Gotten mostly from Wally World. Some stuff my aunt Colleen sent me. She has even more nail polish than I. Though I guess I've never gotten a full head count of mine. I'll get on that...
From Left to Right, I have:
  • Black Crackle:OPI
  • Pink Violets: Max Factor Diamond Hard Formula
  • Tulip Take-Off: Maybelline Express Finish
  • Key West Coral: Maybelline Great Finish
  • Hot Tamale: Pure Ice
  • Yellow Polka: Pure Ice
  • Beach Green: Kiss Nail Art Paint Stripers
  • Free Spirit: Pure Ice
  • Pool Party: Pure Ice
  • Celestial: Pure Ice
  • No Means No: Pure Ice
So that's how I failed and what I did to fix it. And a hint on my next post: I'm doing something big, it'll take me a while, I've done it before. It's a D.I.Y. and it's for someone that I love very much. Try to guess while I'm failing at that to. And here's some good nail painting music for good measure.

News of a sort...

Hello you gorgeous followers! I have some news! I know you're thinking, news, what news? Good or bad? Or if you've already seen my mom's facebook update, then you already know and you're like. "Yeah, yeah, yeah, get on with this already." But if you haven't seen it yet, don't. Just wait until the end of my blog post like the rest of the good followers here. And don't even think about skipping this perfectly good blog story.
There's a spelling bee at my school, and most other schools. But before we are deemed as "gifted" enough to be graced with a spot in the Nerd Herd, as we so gracefully call ourselves, we must first take a spelling test. This spelling test consists of 25 words, most of them dreadfully difficult. Last year's was so atrocious, that the highest # of words correct was only 19, in the whole entire school. And that chick was really smarttt!!!!!! So this year we had the same kind of test, but it was seemingly easier. Don't ask me why.
Apparently the other kids in my grade eventually got their test grades back, but I have yet to receive mine. The only way us kids find out if we made the spelling bee is, we get called down to the office. (It's really fun to tease the few really gullible children that think they're actually in trouble.) Don't worry, we tell them... eventually..... that we were joking. After we get kissed on our heads and sucked up to enormously (total exaggeration, no one has ever kissed me on my head), we go back to our class rooms and joyfully take on the role as the Nerd Herd.
About a week later, we go up to sit on a stage in a totally random order that is decided by picking numbers out of a hat, yes, a very sophisticated process I must admit. Then the spelling bee begins. Eventually all of my friends get kicked out of the unforgiving competition. My friend did nothing but stutter a wrong letter, he even caught himself, but if was too late. I felt bad for him, I wanted him to win, he won last year and I knew he was an awesome speller. My words, however, seemed to get easier. The hardest word I ever got  was laborious. Hard right? I had a large assortment of odd words. (vital, twinkly, mustard, mischief, carnival, shallow, etc....) I bet you can tell what happened eventually right?
(Warning: this may sound nerdy) Every kid has a right to his own, awesome, nail-biting climax, correct? If not, I'll give mine to you anyway. Picture this: It's me and this one other kid. He stands up shakily, sweat pouring down his face. I look up slyly and smile, already smelling victory. My teacher mutters a simple word into the microphone. "Altogether," she states. The boy is completely lost... "Altogether, A-L-L-T-O-G-E-T-H-E-R?" The bell goes off, he's down. I spell two more words correctly, and I won.
You want to know a secret? Total exaggeration. It wasn't that amazing. Truth: He spelled a word wrong, I spelled a word right. The end. But like I said, every kid should get his/her own awesome, nail-biting climax.
So the girl who got 19 words right on the spelling test last year, (oh yeah, that was me, aren't I modest? ;)) also won the spelling bee this year. I won and now I will get to go on to Regionals. I'll give you info on that when I get it.

*P.S. For those of you who skipped the whole blog story and instead went to the end, go back and read the story. And stop cheating!

There's only one Miss Piggy, and she is moi!

Let's Mupp- it up!!! Yes, I know that's about as cheesy as it can get, but it's still Muppets, how much better can you get? Today I am going to do my first polish swatch. For those of you who don't know what that is, it's where I review a nail polish and show you what it looks like. In this case, several polishes. I recently got all sorts of fun nail art things from my awesome mom, one of these things being the Muppet inspired collection of nail polish from OPI. So I am going to try it out because when it comes to nail polishes, it's time to decide whether you're a man, or a Muppet.

This is the Muppet Collection. It's so cute! I'm using Wocka Wocka! right now. It's a really cute deep red color. I think I'm in love.

For the third and fourth pictures you see up there, I decorated with Excuse Moi! and
Designer... de Better! Cute right?

This is not in the collection but it goes along with the Muppet theme. BTW: I LOVE MUPPETS! I am so in love with the Muppets, it's not even funny. I love the old Muppet show, I even wanted a Muppet for Christmas. But they were $100 so I'll have to save up a little more for that one. Anyway, I am soo off course here, this is another awesome polish I got from my mom recently. It's called... wait for it... Rainbow Connection! Yes, like the song. The song that is really stuck in my head right now. The polish looks like it suggests, a rainbow. Just look!

Told you! So those are my awesome, sensational new polish colors. The Muppets have some pretty good taste! So I've discovered this while writing: I am a Muppet of a man! (or woman to be specific).
And just so that you can get it stuck in your head, I'll give you the music I rocked out to while painting these bad boys:

Aren't I funny? Maniacal laugh... Maniacal laugh...

Getting into the "Swing" of it

Howdy. I just want to thank all my new followers for taking the time to follow me. I promise, after this funky post, I will not let you down. As the title tells, I'm getting into the swing of this blog thing. Chaos Mommy keeps telling me to post things, but the fact is, I just don't know what to post. Does anyone else ever feel like that? She told me to talk about the funny things my little brother Hunter does, but that's just not what I want to do. Besides, I can't call the blog, "Stuff my Brother Says" because thats kinda already been used.
I can't talk about school much either. This is all that's happened today:
  • We learned about stocks in school... boring right?
  • I learned a really fun new word, BAZONKA! (Yes it is meant to sound obnoxious(:  )
  • We have to start thinking about our Four Year Plans so that we can face the dangerous, rebellious halls of high school with a piece of paper that says we know what we are doing when we are really ants in a school of hungry grasshoppers. Confusing right?
  • My mother wants me to sing my favorite song in an upcoming Lorence Idol, put on by my Choral Director Mrs. Lorence.
  • The only other exciting thing in school is people coughing up lungs (not literally) and sending snot and germs to land all over me and my friends. Joy..... Grody, Grody JOY. Can you sense the amusement in my voice?
So now I've successfully written a blog about nothing. Aren't I talented?
I hope all of your lives are far more fascinating than mine at this moment. Just remember:

Post Numéro un

This is my first post. Does this mean I'm an official new blogger? If it does, YAY! Everybody, let's break out the sparkling grape soda and the juiceboxes because I'm going to celebrate! Now you might be saying, what is this girl doing, well ladies and gentleman, I'm breaking the ice.
My name is Louisa B. I'm a spunky girl who does well in school, takes French and tries to make everthing sound positive. I said spunky because I recently heard that word and now it is stuck in my mind. It sounded fun. I'm from the mighty state of Wisconsin, yes, I'm a proud Cheesehead. Please don't say anything about the Packer's recent stumble. :( I am from Wisconsin, but right now I'm residing in the state of New York. That's because my dad's in the army, so we're currently stationed at Ft. Drum.
I'm a big movie person. I love movies so much, I even wish to become an actress when I grow up. To start, I am in my school's production of Fiddler on the Roof. Fun right? I play Yente, the old matchmaker. I have a lot of funny lines :). But anyways, I'm so off topic, if you catch random movie quotes in my blogs, please comment about it. It'll be kind of a game.
Now that I introduced myself to the zero followers I have. ;) Let me tell you what I'm going to be doing on this blog, well frankly, a lot. I post D.I.Y.s, which is one of my favorite things to do, and I'll tell you about the wacky things that happen with me and my Chaos Family. Some of you may even follow my mom at The Chaos Mommy. If you don't you totally should, she's even better at this blogging thing than I am! Hehe. Small joke.
Well I've kind of got to get going now. I'm sure looking forward to this blog, I hope you are looking forward to it too.
